Ritu Ghosh, Head, Corporate Affairs and CSR, Panasonic India. She is
an “information communication technology” public policy expert with
over 21 years of experience. Panasonic India announced its ambitious
Project " Harit Umang” (Joy Of Greens) on 22 Feb. They launched this
program, where they reached out to various schools and they pledged
that during a precise amount of time they will be planting various
trees. In conclusion the schools together planted one lakh trees.
Main reason:
To see the maximum amount of E-Waste collected and the amount of trees planted.
On the onset of the workshop, Ritu Ghosh talks about gadgets we use in
our everyday lives. She describes the frequent use of gadgets in a
person’s life.
She says that the owner has the authority to decide where a particular
device can go. First and foremost responsibility- Owner holds the most
importance.
And she says it’s the owners duty to decide where the discarded device
has to go.
Students share shed light upon the topic of what happens with the
discarded devices. It’s the owners duty to to decide where it has to
go.
She gives two scenarios where in the first one, the consumer has been
able to sell their old device for a good sum of money. The owner has
money in its pockets although, have no idea of where the phone went.
In the first scenario, the buyer dismantles the phone, takes the parts
of the phone, pours acid, which can be very hazardous for the
environment. Disposing off materials can cause pollution to the
environment, if careless.
Second Scenario- Ritu says it’s better to send your old device to the
original company, that will furthermore, be recycled where the parts
of the device are carefully taken out without causing any harmful
substances. The parts of the body are then recycled for further
various functions. She says we as consumers are to decide the device’s
journey.
She shares how we can contact the company and they will for sure
ensure that it will get recycled. And our job as the consumers is to
have the sense that even a small decision of ours can affect the
environment.
In conclusion, she sends a message to be careful for where we discard our devices. To be conservative towards energy. Lastly, to plant numerous trees.
