An article about Princess Diana’s life and death by Zoya Singh
"I am sitting here at my desk today in October," she writes, "longing for someone to hug me and encourage me to keep strong and hold my head high. This particular phase in my life is the most dangerous _ X is planning “an accident” in my car, brake failure and serious head injury in order to make the path clear for Charles to marry.
On August 31st, 1977, a black Mercedes collided into a pillar of a road tunnel in Paris. Tailing them were the paparazzi, who immediately surrounded the car to eagerly witness what had happened to the occupants. The driver, Henri Paul and Egyptian film producer Dodi Fayed were pronounced dead at the scene. The third occupant, Princess Diana barely survived with a concussion and a cut thigh. They rushed her to a hospital, but she never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead as well.
In July 1981, Diana was wedded to Prince Charles and was pronounced the Princess of Wales. Unlike the Crown's expectations from her, she had an unconventional approach towards social duties. Her glamour and activism in charity eventually made her an international icon. However, her inside life was quite the opposite. Her marriage to the Queen's son had turned sour due to extramarital affairs, and whether it was due to the envy of her elegance and natural charm or her uncustomary ways, she was thoroughly despised by the royal family.
It came to light in May 1992 that her husband had been having an extramarital affair with his previous girlfriend, Camilla Parker. This, along with her marriage's incompatibility, had added to what most media quoted as 'suicidal' unhappiness. Renowned Netflix series 'The Crown' splendidly recounts Diana's gain in popularity once the affair was exposed to the public, followed by the Queen's disapproval of a divorce, which is considered immensely dishonourable for royalty.
Shortly after, Diana's life took a turn for the worse; after the birth of her two sons, now known as Prince Harry and William, she consequently suffered from postnatal depression and eating disorders. She had to put up with the pressure of the royal media-press and paparazzi. In August 1986, Diana's divorce was finalised, along with the revoking of her royal title.
I have been battered, bruised and abused mentally by a system for 15 years now, but I feel no resentment ... I am strong inside, and maybe that is a problem for my enemies. Thank you, Charles, for putting me through such hell and for giving me the opportunity to learn from the cruel things you have done to me."
