From a "Proud" daughter of India

Written by Tarini Dayal

As a 'proud' daughter of India,

I wake up praying for that young girl,

who puts a brave smile on her face everyday,

while she struggles to fight for her place in the world.

As a 'proud' daughter of India,

I watch helplessly as the news flood in

of that woman snatched from her innocence,

I watch helplessly as despair in her eyes swim.

As a 'proud' daughter of India,

I struggle to find the words to appreciate it,

to fight for it, to live in it,

I struggle everyday to do my bit.

As a 'proud' daughter of India,

I yearn for the respect of my sisters,

for it to be restored, for their lives to find peace,

for their justice I yearn, for their voice to be heard, I shed tears.

As a 'proud' daughter of India,

I watch my country, my home crumble

while holding out that last straw of hope,

I watch as into the rabbit hole it tumbles.

As a 'proud' daughter of India,

amidst the fear and frustration, I stay,

wishing only for it to be a better parent,

and bring back the voices faded far, far away.
