A Roll Back Into The 90’s

Written by: Kisha Parashar

90’s was no doubt the most fashionable and trendy year. It’s iconic trends and clothing is the very thing that has brought them into fashion once again. The '90s fashion was about function, with just a few frills thrown in, that truly make no sense whatsoever.

Most of the glamours attires and accessories that we wear today are inspired by the 90’s and some of them are exactly the same!

A few of the most prominent as well as fashionable trends were:

Scrunchies

Denim skirts

Platform shoes

Crop Tops

High Waisted jeans

Flare jeans

Dungarees

Mom jeans

Combat boots

Big/loose shirts

In today's time, scrunchies are available everywhere. They have become quite popular and every single person is loaded with them. They were iconic then and are still iconic now.

From the flower printed ones to the front slit, buttoned, A-line, distressed, midi and polka dots, denim skirts will always be in fashion! One good thing with denim skirts was the fact that it would suit anyone irrespective of the age, personality or body type.

The platform shoe belongs to several decades and subcultures. However, the iteration from the ’90s, a black chunky sole black boot (often with a curved heel) is the one to keep an eye on in 2019. The shoe is part of the goth uniform and a coquettish accoutrement for the lingerie as an outerwear trend.

Like they say fashion changes, but style endures. Trends come and go all the time; while some are gone, a few good ones are back. The crop top is one of those trends that found its way from where it started and this time it’s gotten better. Wear them with jeans, shorts, maxi skirts, tracks, and everything you can think of pairing them with. From the runway to everyday wearables, it is approved.

High-Waited jeans were not that popular in the 90’s but today’s generation is too much of awe for it. They are the low cut trend that has somehow managed to catch up.

Flare jeans, which were basically reincarnated bell bottoms from the ’70s, were a staple with young Hollywood in the ’90s. And it’s the same group that is bringing the trend back to life in 2019, but with fewer bells and whistles.

Be it short or long, Dungarees if styled well, are the most stylish pieces of clothing you can wear. It did wane into the horizon a little, but it’s on its path to resurrection in the fashion world with a bang!

The mom jeans slowly disappeared from the nineties fashion wardrobe, malls, and brands. The style guides suddenly stopped mentioning these, and they became extinct. They were just a pair of airy, comfortable, cotton denim pants that sat beautifully at the waist and were out near the thighs (unlike the painfully tight ones). There are a lot of variations, but this breathable pair of trousers is something that has finally revived and is back in trend.

There was a time in fashion when men and women dressed up similarly, more like the fashion grunge movement. That’s how the heavy-duty combat boots started. For a while, it felt a little ridiculous to wear boots with slip dresses, skirts, jeans and everything. But it made its way into today’s generation.

Over the last decade or so, it was a sin to wear anything loose. It is stylish only when you wear clothes that are tight and body-hugging. It was not the case if you rewind ten years, say the 90s. Loose shirts, boyfriend T-shirts were oh-so-comfortable and stylish. Cut to now; it’s an in thing again.

When the 90s trend was initially picking up, it felt like a very temporary thing and a fad that will eventually fade. Surprisingly that’s not the case. In conclusion, the 90’s trends have inspired everyone and have expanded horizons. They have made today’s generation more latest and up to the minute.
