‘Disability is just a perception.’
3rd December is acknowledged internationally as World Disability Day. In sync with this, the SEN department of our school has organised a week long Disability awareness programme, called Xpanding Horizons, for the students of our school and other concerned externals. The programme was initiated by an event which saw many eminent people of defined physical and mental abilities come and talk about their life, hardships, and how they overcame them. The speakers included the Trends Editor of Scoopwoop, a dancer from a wheelchair dance crew (whose team appeared in India’s Got Talent), and a standup comedian. The event was attended by the SEN department and students of our school, along with those of others schools, and parents. Another Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment talk is scheduled for the 7th of December, Friday, as a culmination.
The purpose of this programme, as said by Ms Archana Khanna (Head of SEN Dept), is twofold; first, to encourage all people to accept each other; and second, to build respect for differently-abled students.
