“A celebration of the learning of the subjects of commerce”
Commerce month is a fest organized every year in our school, to build interest around the subjects in this vast field, and go beyond what is academically stipulated. During this time, students engage in a variety of hands-on activities and interactive workshops. Here are a few of the events The Commerce students of 11th enjoyed this year:
1. A game of Monopoly- That’s right! This all time favourite board game was modified and played during a two hour back-to-back session in all the commerce classes. But here’s the catch- each player had to keep an account of the transactions they were making. The player who defaulted the most in keeping a record was disqualified, while, as convention, the player who finished with the highest sum of money, won.
2. InvestQuest- For all those budding venture capitalists and entrepreneurs, InvestQuest was a fun activity lending exposure to the world of investment and finance. The 12th grade entrepreneur students tried to sell their ideas to a 6-member panel of 11th grade Economics students, who, at the end, decided upon one idea they would like to invest in.
Winner:
3. Playnomics Workshop- Mr. Aryapriya Ganguly, from the ISBF (Indian School of Business and Finance), conducted the following activities with students spread across 11th and 12th grade:
Win Win (11th) - A simulation of the international system of trade.
IPL Bidding (12th) - A simulation of the stock exchange.
These workshops were expected to “show students how these theoretical concepts can confront them in their day-to-day life”
4. Movie screening: In the 1st of August, “Inside Job”, a movie showcasing the events leading upto the global financial meltdown of 2008, was screened for all commerce students in the Chanakya Hall.
